A House Dividing? Bringing what is said in private into the open

Author Matthew J. Peterson believes that Americans are now so dangerously divided in our worldview that we can no longer afford to keep our disagreements hidden - forbidden from bringing the discussions we are having in private into public light. By keeping these divisions underground, we risk serious and sudden shocks to our political and cultural life together. Only by having this debate out in public can we hope to resolve the current crisis. Can Catholic Social Teaching Unite a Divided America?
President Biden’s approach is a far cry from that of the first Catholic president, John F. Kennedy, who sought to dispel prejudice against his faith by assuring an audience of Protestant ministers during the 1960 campaign: “I am not the Catholic candidate for president. I am the Democratic Party’s candidate for president, who happens also to be a Catholic. I do not speak for my church on public matters, and the church does not speak for me.”President Biden, Sen. Rubio and many non-Catholic thinkers see a way forward in the church’s long tradition of public discourse, even as they disagree in interpreting it. Wall Street Journal

The toolkit includes a list of ways 'white supremacy culture' allegedly 'infiltrates math classrooms'.  Fox News

Both surprises were the result of an informal alliance between left-wing activists and business titans. TIME

Giving Up Alcohol in the Era of Covid-19
Several studies conducted last fall determined that binge drinking has increased during the pandemic. A study of more than 1,500 adults published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in September found that the frequency of alcohol consumption increased 14% over the previous year for all adults. For women, binge drinking went up a whopping 41%. As drinking is on the rise as a response to stress, a growing number of people are choosing to give up alcohol before it becomes a problem.
