U.S. Senate wrangles over $2,000 stimulus checks, defense veto, as deadline looms . . . The U.S. Senate will grapple shortly with whether to increase payments to Americans reeling from the COVID-19 pandemic and override President Donald Trump’s veto of a $740 billion defense bill, two measures set to lapse if lawmakers fail to act before a new Congress takes office on Sunday. Democrats are pushing for a vote on the additional money, a
step they believe could give them an advantage in two Georgia runoff elections next week that will determine which party controls the Senate under President-elect Joe Biden’s incoming administration. The bill faces a tough path in the Republican-led Senate, with many Republicans pointing to hundreds of billions of dollars in added costs of COVID-19 relief. Reuters
Who gets a second stimulus check? What to know since Trump signed COVID bill . . . Millions of Americans are on track to receive a second stimulus check now that President Trump has signed the $2.3 trillion COVID-19 relief package. Here is who qualifies for a second stimulus check. Individual taxpayers earning up to $75,000 a year and couples who filed taxes jointly with annual incomes up to $150,000 will be eligible for the
payments. Households will also get a $600 payment for every dependent child. However, those with dependent children over the age of 17 won’t receive a check and they can’t collect one for themselves. Eligibility is determined based on individuals’ 2019 tax returns. But those who made less money in 2020 than the previous year can still claim this money in the form of a refundable tax credit when they file their taxes. New York Post
Trump Admin says vaccinations much higher than reported 2M . . . The Trump administration said Monday that far more have been vaccinated in the United States than estimates suggest, meaning that the rollout is faster than the numbers indicate.
“That 2 million number is probably an underestimate,” Adm. Brett Giroir, Health and Human Services assistant secretary, said. “We certainly expect that to be a multiple of 2 million.” Giroir added that the lag time between administering the shots and reporting the number of shots given each day is about three to seven days, meaning the actual number of vaccinations will balloon in the coming days as more data reaches the CDC. Washington Examiner
No big surprise that the number of vaccinations is low-balled. POTUS has not received any credit from MSM and pundits for launching Operation Warped Speed and mobilizing the government bureaucrats to approve the vaccine at record speed. Nothing magically happens when it comes to large bureacracies.
Fauci urges to take the new COVID strain very seriously . . . Dr. Fauci said people should take the more contagious strain of the coronavirus that has emerged in southeastern England “very seriously.” He had discouraged outright barring flights from the United Kingdom but agreed that U.S. officials were right to require proof of negative coronavirus tests for anyone entering the country from Britain. Fauci added that while their
British counterparts have expressed confidence that existing vaccines will be equally effective against the new strain, “we’re going to be doing the studies ourselves.” The Hill
WHO chief scientist says it's unclear if vaccine will prevent COVID from spreading . . . The World Health Organization’s Chief Scientist Dr. Soumya Swaminathan expressed skepticism over what exactly the coronavirus vaccine actually does with regards to transmissibility. “At the moment I don’t believe we have the evidence on any of the vaccines to be confident that it’s going to prevent people from actually getting the infection and
therefore being able to pass it on,” Swaminathan said. “I think until we know we know more, we need to assume that people who have been vaccinated need to take the same precautions until there’s a certain level of herd immunity that has been built in the population.” Daily Caller.

Georgia military families who backed Biden could help determine Senate control . . . President -elect Joe Biden’s narrow victory in Georgia was driven in part by shifts toward the Democratic ticket in a collection of nine counties with strong ties to the military. As a group, the military counties backed President Trump. However, his victory margin was 7.8 percentage points less than in 2016, a greater movement than the
5.3-point swing toward Mr. Biden statewide. And while voter turnout grew by less than 21% across Georgia, the number of votes cast in military counties rose by nearly 26%. Now, Mr. Trump’s veto of the annual defense policy bill is adding new complications to GOP voter turnout efforts ahead of Jan. 5 Georgia runoff elections that will determine control of the U.S. Senate. The Wall Street Journal
Trump backs Bernie Sanders' filibuster plans . . . President Donald Trump has backed Bernie Sanders' plans to filibuster and force the Senate to sit until the new year if a vote is not held on a bill passed by the House to increase stimulus checks to $2,000 from $600. Sanders announced his intentions on Monday to slow down the Senate's vote on overriding the president's veto of a huge defense bill unless Senate leaders agree to hold
a vote on increasing the amount given to Americans in coronavirus relief funds. In response to a tweet reporting Sanders' plans and in apparent support of them, the President wrote: 'Give the people $2000, not $600. They have suffered enough!' Daily Mail
Comedian rejects phony Biden appeal for unity, says "I want blood" . . . Comedian David Cross has other ideas in response to Joe Biden’s call for “unity.” Seems like the comedian isn’t joking. Biden, of course, is joking. Calls for unity by Democrats are merely a tool to slam Republicans when they fail to “unify” behind leftist policies. When conservatives fail to agree with Biden, they will be slammed by Democrats and the press as “divisive.” And
don’t laugh. Cross, whoever he is, has 200,000 followers. White House Dossier
Fewer rejected ballots seemed to be a win for voter access. Trump disagrees . . . Election officials in October worried that up to 40,000 ballots would be rejected in the general election because they had not been put into a secrecy envelope before being mailed in a second envelope. So-called naked ballots are a common mistake that can invalidate votes. But in Philadelphia County's 2020 general election, the wave of rejections did not
happen. High-profile lawsuits, saturation news coverage and a social media campaign featuring nearly nude messages from actors Sarah Silverman and Sacha Baron Cohen brought naked ballot rejections in Philadelphia County down to a paltry 3,061 as of late November. USA

Trump Admin bolsters order barring U.S. investment in Chinese firms . . . The Trump administration on Monday strengthened an executive order barring U.S. investors from buying securities of alleged Chinese military-controlled companies, following disagreement among U.S. agencies about how tough to make the directive. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that the announcement “ensures U.S. capital does not contribute to the development
and modernization of the PRC military, intelligence, and security services . . . This should allay concerns that U.S. investors might unknowingly support" Chinese military-controlled companies "via direct, indirect, or other passive investments." Reuters

Targeted killings of journalists surged in 2020; Mexico tops the list . . . More journalists are being killed outside of war zones, and the overwhelming majority of this year’s grim total of at least 50 dead were deliberately targeted, many of them murdered while investigating organized crime, corruption and environmental degradation, says Reporters Without Borders. 68% were killed outside of war zones this year. Targeted killings
of journalists surged in 2020, accounting for 84% of deaths, sharply up from 63% in 2019. Mexico as the deadliest country for media workers, counting at least eight journalists killed there in connection with their work in 2020. Associated Press
One thousand Pakistani girls forcibly converted to Islam every year . . . Nearly 1,000 girls from religious minorities are forced to convert to Islam in Pakistan each year, largely to pave the way for marriages that are under the legal age and non-consensual. The practice has accelerated during lockdowns against the coronavirus, when girls are out of school and more visible, bride traffickers are more active on the Internet and families are more in
debt. The declaration was based in part on an appraisal by the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom that underage girls in the minority Hindu, Christian, and Sikh communities were “kidnapped for forced conversion to Islam… forcibly married and subjected to rape.” AP News
Russia admits COVID death toll is three times higher than reported . . . Russia has admitted its coronavirus death toll is more than three times higher than previously reported. It had reported more than three million infections since the beginning of the pandemic but its comparatively low fatality rate had raised eyebrows. New figures show that more than 186,000 Russians have died from the virus, up from the 55,265 the country
officially reported. This means that Russia has the third-highest number of fatalities, moving ahead of India and sitting behind only the US and Brazil. Sky News

Experts expect stock market to plummet under Biden . . . Dozens of business experts believe the economy will falter after President-elect Joe Biden assumes office, according to Washington Examiner. In a survey conducted by CNBC, more than 100 chief investment officers, portfolio managers, and CNBC contributors were asked if the Biden administration would benefit the stock market more than the Trump administration. Two-thirds of those
surveyed said that they expected stocks to take a tumble. The expected economic downturn follows years of record-setting growth. President Trump recently praised the Dow Jones Industrial Average’s milestone high of 30,000 in a surprise press conference at the White House. White House Dossier
Massive regulation. Huge tax increases. Wealth redistribution. What could go wrong?
Amazon delivered more than 1.5 billion items over Christmas season . . . Amazon delivered more than 1.5 billion items globally this holiday season. The online-retail giant said that it had a “record-breaking holiday season” this year. It delivered "1.5 billion toys, home products, beauty and personal care products, and electronics worldwide this holiday." Amazon reported a 37 percent spike in sales in the third quarter up
to a record-breaking $96.2 billion. It also forecast sales between $112 billion and $121 billion for the fourth quarter. The astronomical growth of Amazon — and the wealth of its CEO Jeff Bezos — has come as the company faces renewed antitrust scrutiny over its dual role as a platform operator and vendor. The Hill
Leftist Dr. Evil who traded his smart, beautiful, and elegant wife for a bimbo keeps getting richer and richer.
Bitcoin Looks to Gain Traction in Payments . . . A luxury auto dealership in Las Vegas, has become a playground for wealthy bitcoin investors who want to cash in. The dealership recently sold two high-end sports cars to a customer who paid more than $6 million in bitcoin. Bitcoin prices have more than tripled in 2020 and are hovering around $26,600, making millionaires out of hoards of investors who piled in to ride the
popular momentum trade. Professional investors began investing this year. Companies like Robinhood Markets and PayPal allowed their customers to buy and sell bitcoin. Despite those inroads, industry watchers say bitcoin must gain traction as a form of payment to become more ubiquitous. Spending it isn’t easy. Few merchants accept it. Its use is generally limited to high-end purchases. The Wall Street Journal

CDC reports record-low positive flu tests . . . As coronavirus cases surge nationwide, the flu has seen a remarkable dip. Reported cases of influenza reached record lows last week, with fewer than 40 diagnoses recorded during Dec. 13-19. The positivity rate has sharply declined this calendar year as only 0.10% of tests taken this year came back positive. The five-year average is 15.80% positive. The data comes in
defiance of the "twindemic" concerns perpetuated by medical experts, or the idea that the raging coronavirus pandemic and the seasonal increase in reported flu cases would converge with catastrophic results. Washington Examiner
Computer repairman at center of Hunter Biden laptop scandal sues Twitter . . . Mac Isaac, a Delaware computer repairman who went public with the sordid contents of Hunter Biden’s hard drive, is now suing Twitter for defamation — claiming its content moderation unfairly branded him a “hacker.” The emails detailing Hunter Biden’s shady overseas business dealings are reportedly now part of a federal tax probe into Biden’s scandal-scarred
son, but social media giant Twitter immediately blocked users from sharing it online, claiming the reporting relied on “hacked materials.” Isaac's business received threats and negative reviews after Twitter’s moderation. He also received personal threats. New York Post

Couple steals $300 albino python from pet store . . . Police in Peabody, Massachusetts, are looking for a couple who slithered away with a snake worth $300 from a city pet store. The couple entered the Petco store around 4:30 p.m. Monday. The man asked an employee if he could play with the albino cinnamon ball python. When the employee said that is against store policy, the man offered to buy it, Capt. Dennis Bonaiuto said.
The employee put the snake in a box and brought it to the register area. When the employee put it on the counter, the man grabbed the box, and he and the woman ran from the store and sped away in a car. AP News
MAGA hat helps thwart conflict . . . The MAGA hat is this century's peace sign—a beautiful red signal to other normal-thinking Americans that logical discourse is an option. That lesson was heard loud and clear this year by Larry David, who despite being ideologically aligned (and actually related) to socialist Bernie Sanders, happened to have one of these magical MAGA hats in his car when he nearly ran a motorcycle off the
road. For most liberals, cutting off a red-blooded American tough guy in your electric BMW i3 while he's hitting the open road on his hog could have some serious ramifications. In fact, the man's initial reaction was as follows: What the F are you doing?! What are you trying to do man?! But then Larry flipped on the magic MAGA hat, and POOF, conflict diffused. "Oh, just be more careful next time, okay?" the man told Larry with a gentle smile. And both of them went on
their way. Washington Free Beacon
Keith and I love Larry David, despite our ideological differences with him. If you haven't watched "Curb Your Enthusiasm," we strongly recommend.
