Good morning
Welcome to today's top news.
Housekeeping info . . .
I will not publish CTTN this Friday. I will be accompanying my teenage son for a medical procedure, early tomorrow morning. Sorry for the inconvenience. Will resume on Saturday.
Leading the News . . .
The pandemic taught us authoritarianism is very popular . . . Opinion. By Tucker Carlson. On Saturday, some unnamed actors in the House of Representatives inserted a remarkable provision into the so-called "budget reconciliation bill." Almost nobody outside Washington noticed it was there. The bill is one of the largest in human history. It’s nearly twenty-five hundred pages long. It spends $3.5 trillion dollars. Where
does that money come from? Well, it was just newly printed by the federal reserve for the occasion. The provision in question was hidden on page 168. Here’s what it says: going forward the federal government will bankrupt any company that refuses to comply with Joe Biden's vaccine mandate.
Have an unvaccinated worker in your office? The fine for that will be $700,000, payable to the U.S. treasury, for each and every one of those workers. Even by Washington’s standards, that’s a lot of money. Here’s a comparison: In June, by comparison, the federal government penalized a chemical company in West Virginia, after its plant exploded, killing one employee and sending two others to the hospital. The fine, in that case, was $12,288 dollars. So there you have it, written out
in black and white, the moral priorities of the Democratic Party. Fox News

Democrat push to expand government, inject race alienates 2022 swing voters, polling shows . . . Bashing America, cops and free-market capitalism comes with blowback. Newt Gingrich, who crafted the Contract with America that upset Washington's political status quo a quarter century ago, has quietly been conducting one of the most extensive polling operations ever of swing voters ahead of the 2022 election. His takeaway: Dems' big government,
race-focused and America-disparaging agenda could bust the fragile coalition that put Joe Biden in power last November.
His polling shows Americans overwhelmingly think the United States is the greatest county in history, prefer free-market capitalism to big government socialism, reject the premise of critical race theory that skin color is a pre-determinant to success, and oppose defunding the police. Democrats have overreached with an agenda that this week alone will put $4.5 trillion in government expansion on the table in Congress with a series of critical Biden agenda votes. "With Biden's
election, the left went crazy," Gingrich explained in a recent interview on John Solomon Reports podcast. Just the News

Classified Briefing on Nord Stream Pipeline Renews GOP Concerns That Biden Is Caving to Russia . . . Sen. Bill Hagerty (R., Tenn.) said that a classified briefing on Wednesday about the contested Nord Stream 2 Russian energy pipeline renewed concerns that the Biden administration is bowing to Russia, which is completing a massive energy project that Republicans worry will solidify Moscow's grip on Europe’s energy
needs. Hagerty, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, told the Washington Free Beacon that information provided by U.S. officials in a classified setting confirmed the Biden administration will continue to ignore congressionally mandated sanctions meant to stymie the completion of Nord Stream 2. Hagerty said, "If the Biden administration will not enforce the law in good faith, Congress will need to act very soon to counter Vladimir Putin's malign influence energy
project." Washington Free Beacon
Republican candidates tack toward right on abortion . . . Republicans across the country are working to appeal to the party’s anti-abortion voter base ahead of next year’s midterms elections by lurching further to the right on the deeply controversial issue than their primary competitors. In Nevada, former Sen. Dean Heller voiced his support for the near-total ban on abortion in Texas as he announced his campaign for governor. Meanwhile
in Ohio, three Republican Senate candidates have very publicly thrown their support behind “fetal heartbeat” legislation. In New Hampshire, Gov. Chris Sununu (R), a potential Senate candidate, is facing backlash from Democrats for signing a state budget that included a ban on the procedure after 24 weeks of pregnancy and mandatory ultrasounds before abortions take place. The issue has also come up in other closely watched races, including in Virginia and Arizona. Despite facing
backlash from Democrats on the issue, conservatives say the move to the right is essential for winning a Republican primary. The Hill
2022 midterm elections ad spending expected to break records . . . The 2022 midterm election cycle will likely set a new record for ad spending, according to a report from a top national ad tracking firm. AdImpact projects that $8.9 billion will be shelled out to run TV, digital and radio ads in the 2022 races, which would be the highest ever for a midterm election cycle. New data from AdImpact indicates that expenditures so
far by campaigns, party committees and outside groups is pacing far ahead of previous cycles. Total spending through the first nine months of this year has hit $774 million, a 61% increase over the same point in 2019, during the 2020 election cycle, which included ad spending in the Democratic presidential nomination race. And the 2021 figures are a whopping 214% increase over the same point in 2017 – during the 2018 midterm election cycle. Fox Business
AOC's teary Iron Dome meltdown dampens her chances against Schumer . . . Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., has diminished the chance of a successful primary run against New York Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer after she was filmed crying on the House floor following a vote to give another $1 billion to Israel to restore its Iron Dome missile interception system. Last week, after she initially voted against the Iron Dome funding and
later amended her vote to "present," Ocasio-Cortez was accused of shedding "crocodile tears." Last month, Ocasio-Cortez refused to rule out a primary challenge next year against Schumer, the Senate majority leader, while insisting that the two of them have been "working very closely." Fox News
Oh, I am sure AOC is envisioning becoming President one day. God save our country.
Trump PAC dumps Lewandowski after sexual misconduct allegation by donor . . . Former President Donald Trump’s Make America Great Again PAC severed ties with Corey Lewandowski on Wednesday amid allegations of sexual misconduct against the longtime Trump adviser. “Pam Bondi, the very talented and honorable frmr AG of FL, has our complete faith and confidence in taking over MAGA Action,” tweeted Taylor Budowich, the director of
communications for former President Trump and his Save America PAC. “Corey Lewandowski will be going on to other endeavors and we very much want to thank him for his service. He will no longer be associated with Trump World.” White House Dossier
I can see how any guy would be enamored with Pam, but come on, Corey. You are not in her league! :-)

Biden administration moves to scrap 'Remain in Mexico' . . . The Biden administration on Wednesday said they would craft a new memo rescinding former President Trump’s "Remain in Mexico" policy, an effort to respond to a court decision ordering them to reinstate the program. The Supreme Court in August upheld a lower court decision requiring the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to re-implement what is formally known as the Migrant
Protection Protocols (MPP). DHS on Wednesday announced it would uphold that injunction "in good faith," but the agency plans to again rescind MPP once the injunction is lifted. The Hill
Democratic Senator Blumenthal: ‘Nobody is in charge’ on Afghanistan . . . Senator Richard Blumenthal suggested Tuesday that the Biden administration’s current approach to Afghanistan is beset by chaos. “Nobody is in charge,” the Connecticut Democrat told generals appearing at a hearing of the Senate Armed Service Committee. The outrage is so great over Americans and our Afghan allies being left to the Taliban that even some Democrats
are willing to abandon their partisanship to speak the truth. White House Dossier
Top generals: Terrorists could take root in Afghanistan in less than a year . . . The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff told lawmakers Wednesday that terrorist organizations could regain footing in Afghanistan in as soon as six months leaving some lawmakers concerned that the war there is not over. The remarks by Gen. Mark Milley came amid two consecutive days of contentious testimony before House and Senate panels escalated into
heated flareups among lawmakers and calls for the Pentagon’s top brass to resign. Washington Times
U.S., Europe Team Up to Address Chip Shortage, Tech Issues . . . U.S. and European Union officials agreed to join forces in an effort to boost the semiconductor supply chain and maintain leadership in emerging technologies. In a joint statement Wednesday, the new U.S.-EU Trade and Technology Council said the two governments will “seek to strengthen their competitiveness and technological leadership by developing common strategies to
mitigate the impact of non-market practices at home and in third countries.” While the statement didn’t mention China by name, Beijing’s economic practices—including subsidies for favored industries—were one of the factors behind the commission’s formation. “We know a big part of this is due to the behavior of China,” a senior European trade official said. Kim Jong-un offers to restore hotline with South Korea as he rebuffs America . . . Kim Jong-un declared a scathing rebuttal of American diplomatic overtures. But he promised to reopen hotlines with South Korea, in the latest in a series of mixed messages suggesting that he is open to the possibility of improving relations with Seoul and Washington, despite rising military tension in the region that has
involved recent missile tests by his regime. In his speech to North Korea’s parliament, state media quoted Kim as saying that the hotlines would be reopened within days. The communication channels, between the civilian and military authorities, were briefly restored over the summer. The Times/UK
MLB Ships Jobs to China To Build Closer Relationship With CCP . . . Major League Baseball is expanding its partnership with the Chinese Communist Party, coming at the expense of U.S. jobs and growing Chinese influence over America's pastime.
The country's leading propaganda outlet China Daily on Aug. 20 touted the MLB’s attempts to build a "baseball ecosystem" within the country. The league has grown its network to more than 100 Chinese baseball teams in 20 cities, with a growing fanbase of millions. The league's operations in cahoots with Beijing are not just limited to play—quality U.S. jobs are also at stake. Miken Sports, a baseball equipment brand that provides business to the league, folded a Minnesota production plant and
moved its nearly 70 jobs to China. Washington Free Beacon
From Russia with love? Get to know the stunning Russian translator Putin brought to Trump meeting . . . US officials reportedly thought that Russian President Vladimir Putin chose an attractive female interpreter to “distract” former President Donald Trump during a 2019 summit. Bombshell brunette Daria Boyarskaya, 36, was captured in a photo of Putin and Trump during the G-20 summit in Osaka, Japan. Former White House press
secretary Stephanie Grisham says in her new book, “I’ll Take Your Questions Now,” that Russia adviser Fiona Hill viewed Boyarskaya’s presence with suspicion. “As the meeting began, Fiona Hill leaned over and asked me if I had noticed Putin’s translator, who was a very attractive brunette woman with long hair, a pretty face, and a wonderful figure,” Grisham writes. “She proceeded to tell me that she suspected the woman had been selected by Putin specifically to distract our president.”
New York Post
Take a look at the photos in the NYP articles. It's clear that Daria Boyarskaya is not your traditional professional translator/ interpreter. Fiona Hill, DJT's former advisor on Russia is correct on this one. But I hate it how she threw her boss under the bus at the impeachment hearings. As a Brookings creature, I guess it should've been expected. I used to respect Fiona as one of very few true U.S./British Russia specialists.

Americans with ‘natural immunity’ seek ways around COVID-19 mandates . . . Vaccine holdouts with some immunity from prior coronavirus infections find themselves in the muddled middle as the nation debates how far to go in mandating the shots, with some employers giving them carve-outs and blue states taking hard lines. Strict mandates in Washington and New York states require workers to get vaccines, flustering those who say they are
already producing antibodies. The Consumer Brands Association, a trade group representing 2.1 million workers, wants to know how President Biden‘s push to require vaccination or weekly testing at large companies will be applied to workers with prior infections. Sen. Ron Johnson says previously infected deserve carve-out. Washington Times

Facebook’s Targeted Preteens to Grow Business, Documents Show . . .
Facebook has come under increasing fire in recent days for its effect on young users and its efforts to create products for them. Inside the company, teams of employees have for years been laying plans to attract preteens that go beyond what is publicly known, spurred by fear that Facebook could lose a new generation of users critical to its future. Internal Facebook documents reviewed by The Wall Street Journal show the company formed a team to study preteens, set a three-year goal
to create more products for them and commissioned strategy papers about the long-term business opportunities presented by these potential users. In one presentation, it contemplated whether there might be a way to engage children during play dates. “Why do we care about tweens?” said one document from 2020. “They are a valuable but untapped audience.” Wall Street Journal
Despicable. While I love Apple products, I despise what Steve Jobs, Mark Zukerburg and their ilk have done to our children's brains by relentlessly pushing electronics on young soles. While technological revolution has had tremendous positive impact on humanity, I am not certain the benefits outweigh the risks. It has changed how people think (by literally rewiring the brain, research shows), interact with one another, and even transformed the relationships between kids
and parents, for the worse. Lots of alienation, mental illness, and other negative results. Tragedy is, it's impossible to put this Genie back in the box.
Apple Apologizes After Security Researcher Reveals iOS Bugs . . . Apple has apologized to a security researcher who detailed his “frustrating” experiences dealing with the company, after he disclosed bugs in the iOS operating system. Apple has been criticized for the alleged mishandling of security vulnerability alerts notified through its bug bounty program. Researchers claim that this is symptomatic of the company’s bug bounty program
being riddled with complications, ranging from poor communication to unresolved payment issues. In security researcher Denis Tokarev’s post, he claims to have reported four zero-day vulnerabilities in Apple’s iOS mobile operating system. Zero-days refer to new bugs or security flaws in the system for which there are no patches currently available. After reporting the issues to Apple, Tokarev said that Apple ignored three of them, and released a patch for the fourth one. But when
the latest iOS version, 15.0, was released, the patch was not covered in the company’s security content page, and Tokarev was not given any credit. Epoch Times
It takes a Russian to discover a security flaw in Apple iOS. Kudos to Denis Tokarev for pushing arrogant Apple crew to patch the vulnerabilities. I remember arguing with one of those "Genius Bar" workers at my local Apple store. The brainwashed kid was trying to convince me that Apple products couldn't be hacked while I was trying to inform him and it they could and have been. Funny how these nose-ringed creatures always think they know more
than anyone else.

Codevilla: The Tragic Loss of a Philosopher and Conservative Legend . . . The American conservative movement, and indeed the world, lost one of its greatest thinkers and historians on Sept. 20. Angelo Codevilla, age 78, was killed in a tragic car accident. His passing comes at a time when the United States can hardly afford to lose an eloquent voice of reason and deep learning. As irrationality and wokism rage across the land,
listening to Codevilla speak was music for the soul. In a 2014 lecture at The Heritage Foundation, Codevilla called the American Revolution exceptional because it was the first time human beings accepted peace as a natural state, rather than conflict. Codevilla’s speech was based on his book “To Make and Keep Peace Among Ourselves and With All Nations.” That faith, founded in historical fact, in the principles of the American founding is deeply inspiring today, even as we mourn
Codevilla’s loss. Daily Signal
I didn't know Angelo personally, but a couple of my mentors were really close friends with him and are truly devastated about this tragic loss.
GOP Rep. Dan Crenshaw fined $5,000 for bypassing Pelosi's metal detectors . . . Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-Texas, was fined $5,000 for bypassing the metal detectors that were installed following the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. Crenshaw reportedly refused to go through the detectors, which means the fine will be deducted from his paycheck, according to a Sept. 29 press release from the House Committee on Ethics. Fox News
Research says the monitoring of student devices ‘widespread’ in K-12 schools . . . If you’re a parent of a K-12 student or a student yourself, your computer use is likely being monitored by your school, according to new research. The monitoring of student electronic devices by schools is “widespread,” with 81% of teachers surveyed saying their schools use student activity monitoring software, according to the Center for Democracy and
Technology, a digital rights group. Monitoring software was most often installed on school-issued devices, but about 20% of teachers, parents, and students surveyed said it was installed on students’ personal devices. Thirty percent of teachers said monitoring software was active all of the time, not just during school hours. Washington Examiner
‘Predators’ And ‘Child Abusers’: Matt Walsh Berates The Loudoun County School Board . . . The Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh unleashed roughly 60 seconds of criticism in front of the Loudoun County School Board in a speech Tuesday night, calling them predators, child abusers, and an ideological cult. “You are all child abusers. You prey upon impressionable children and indoctrinate them into your insane ideological cult, a cult which holds many
fanatical views but none so deranged as the idea that boys are girls and girls are boys,” Walsh said. Daily Caller
