Cut through the clutter to today's top news

Good morning
Welcome to today's top news.
Leading the News . . .
Afghanistan shows utter folly of Democrats . . . Biden's botched Afghan exit was utterly predictable. Wasn’t the administration warned this would happen? That without a cohesive, strong, strategic, strong, well-organized, strong exit plan — that all hell would break loose? The devil is in the word “strong.” It’s just not something Democrats understand. Biden, months ago, made it clear he wasn’t going to issue any conditions to the Taliban
for America’s withdrawal from Afghanistan. Talk about tipping your hand. He might as well have handed out the AR-15s, courtesy of the red, white and blue: “Dear Taliban, take care not to shoot your eye out.” At the least, Biden could’ve hung around to address the damage his weak policies have done. Instead, his minions, — the ones not on vacation, that is — issued weak statements blaming a weak Afghan army. What a weak, weak, weak response from a weak, weak, weak president. Democrat
leadership in America means weakness — and the whole world knows it. The world’s aggressors simply wait for it to come, then pounce. Opinion. By Cheryl Chumley. Washington Times
Psaki takes week off, ‘out of office’ reply runs as Biden avoids Afghanistan nightmare . . . How convenient the timing of President Joe Biden going on vacation and White House press secretary Jen Psaki taking a break from her duties. The Taliban routed Afghanistan in a matter of hours and have a firm grip on power as President Ashraf Ghani fled Kabul for Uzbekistan claiming he wanted to “avoid bloodshed” — likely his own. at Camp
David, which prompted Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., to refer to him as “commander-in-absentia.” As Afghanistan crumbled, “commander-in-absentia,” Joe Biden went back to vacation at Camp David after an inept speech. Reporters sent questions to Psaki’s White House email address Sunday morning only to receive an auto reply. “I will be out of the office from August 15th-August 22nd,” read the email returned to the network, further instructing media to contact other press officers in her
absence. Business & Politics Review
Biden gambles he can plow through Afghan crisis . . . President Biden made a big bet in his unapologetic speech from the White House on Monday.c“I stand squarely behind my decision” to withdraw all U.S. forces from Afghanistan, he said. Biden’s gamble is that the American people will fundamentally agree with the decision — and that the traumatic images of the last few days will fade from voters’ minds rather than leave a lasting scar on
his political reputation. Biden is hoping that, in the end, voters will shrug their shoulders about the future of a faraway place in which the U.S. military got bogged down for two decades. A conflict that had until recently faded from the American public consciousness is now dominating everything else on Biden’s political agenda. The Hill
Blinken reaches out to China and Russia on Afghanistan . . .
Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Monday spoke with his counterparts in China and Russia about the security situation in Afghanistan. The calls come as both Beijing and Moscow have signaled an openness to recognizing and working with the Taliban, which over the weekend swiftly ousted the Western-backed government in Kabul. Blinken spoke separately with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi about developments in Afghanistan. In a phone call with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov,
Blinken discussed U.S. efforts to bring American citizens and vulnerable Afghans to safety. The outreach to China and Russia signals a push by the Biden administration to unite the international community as a bulwark against the Taliban’s push to seek legitimacy for its takeover of the country. The

The government is filled with the most incompetent people I've met. Blinken, Jake Sullivan, Ben Rhodes, and the rest of these "experts" are as dumb as a Siberian shoe, as we would say in Russian (Тупой как Сибирский Валенок). How many braincells does it require to realize that you don't reach out for help! to adversaries, like China and Russia, that view the U.S. as their mortal enemy and will do everything to
destroy us.
American business and R&D people are the smartest in the world, having made revolutionary achievements. Why do we tolerate such incompetence in the world's top government?
Taliban leader was freed from Guantanamo Bay in 2014 swap by Obama . . . When then-President Barack Obama released five Taliban commanders from the Guantanamo Bay prison in exchange for an American deserter in 2014, he assured a wary public the dangerous enemy combatants would be transferred to Qatar and kept from causing any trouble in Afghanistan. In fact, they were left free to engineer Sunday’s sacking of Kabul.
Soon after gaining their freedom, some of the notorious Taliban Five pledged to return to fight Americans in Afghanistan and made contacts with active Taliban militants there. But the Obama-Biden administration turned a blind eye to the disturbing intelligence reports, and it wasn’t long before the freed detainees used Qatar as a base to form a regime in exile. Eventually, they were recognized by Western diplomats as official representatives of the Taliban during recent “peace” talks.

U.S. Afghan pullout weighs heavy on vets
Muted reaction mirrors uncertain future . . . Joe Chenelly, a former U.S. Marine who was there at the beginning as part of the U.S. invasion force in Afghanistan after the 9/11 attacks in 2001, is not happy with how the longest war in American history is coming to a close. U.S. military personnel who fought there, in a high number of cases serving multiple tours, at first thought they were part of a new “Greatest Generation” that had mobilized to avenge the wrongs that
terrorists had done to their country, Mr. Chenelly said. But with President Biden’s decision to pull out all American military personnel from Afghanistan and the U.S.-backed government in Kabul on increasingly shaky ground, Mr. Chenelly said he is worried that if the Taliban return to power, any gains won through the sacrifice of so many U.S. military personnel over the years will soon be wiped out. Nearly 800,000 U.S. troops deployed at least once to the country. Two thousand died,
and another 20,000 suffered grievous wounds. But as with the Vietnam War, those who served have been coming to terms with the fact that the U.S. is pulling out with the job undone, with allies still in peril, and with the enemy they ousted 20 years ago scoring success after success on the battlefield. Washington Times
My DIA colleagues who came back from their deployments to Afghanistan told us that the 'nation-building' strategy and training and equipping' the Afghan Army were futile. The rank-and-file officers said back then we should get out immediately, after accomplishing the initial mission. One of my friends said the Afghan soldiers couldn't even do jumping jacks in an organized fashion. They would run all the expensive highly technical equipment to the ground and just
abandon it. Maintenance, oil change are not part of their culture.
The problem is that mid-level officers, even after leaving the government, don't have a platform to make their voices heard and inform the American people that their government has no clue what it's doing, in these endless military campaigns overseas. Unlike corrupt senior officials, like Clapper, Brennan, Comey, intel folks of my level don't get invited on TV to speak the truth. The government apparatchiks on the other hand, lie, for decades, about the "progress" they've
made, democratizing the "un-democratizable" nations. See for yourself in THE AFGHANISTAN PAPERS, A secret history of the war.

China Conducts Live-Fire Military Drills South of Taiwan . . . China announced naval and aerial live-fire military exercises in areas south of Taiwan Tuesday. Combat ships, anti-submarine aircrafts and fighter jets were among the forces that joined the exercises “to test integrated operational capability” in territory southwest and southeast of Taiwan, Shi Yi, spokesperson of the People’s Liberation Army’s Eastern Theater Command, said in
a statement. Shi described the drill as a “necessary activity in response to the recent situation in the Taiwan Strait,” adding that the repeated collusion between the U.S. and Taiwan had become “the largest source of trouble” for the security and stability in the area. The Taiwanese Defense Ministry said in a text message that it had “full control of the latest activity and situation in Taiwan Strait and neighboring air and sea space” and was ready to respond accordingly. Bloomberg
China Touts ‘U.S. Humiliation’ in Afghanistan in Warning to Taiwan . . . China says "U.S. humiliation" in Afghanistan should be a warning sign to Taiwan and other U.S allies in the region that the American military "won't come to help" if war breaks out in the future. As Taliban militants reclaim control of war-torn Afghanistan after the Biden administration's decision to remove all U.S. troops from the country, China is stepping in to
fill the power vacuum. Communist Party officials have been talking to Taliban leaders, and China's embassy in Afghanistan is operating normally, even as the United States conducts an emergency evacuation of its personnel in the country. Chinese state-controlled media and Communist Party loyalists gloated on Sunday over America's "humiliation" as the Taliban marched into the Afghan capital, Kabul, forcing U.S.-backed president Ashraf Ghani to flee the country while his government crumbled.

Stunning photo shows over 600 Afghans packed inside US Air Force plane . . . A stunning photo shows over 600 Afghans crammed into a massive US Air Force cargo plane that safely evacuated Kabul’s international airport on Sunday night after the aircraft’s crew decided to let the refugees remain aboard.
Scores of Afghans attempting to flee the worn-torn country in the wake of the Taliban takeover rushed the partly-open ramp of the C-17 Globemaster III and packed the plane’s roomy hold for a flight to Qatar, according to Defense One, who obtained the jarring photo. New York Post

Forget Beating Covid-19. Europe Is Preparing to Live With It . . . The battle against Covid-19 is shifting into long-term, low-intensity mode in Europe, as countries including Germany, Italy and France go from seeking to end the pandemic to preparing to live with it. Governments are drawing up plans for campaigns of booster shots, mask wearing, frequent testing and limited social-distancing measures to keep the
virus in check ahead of the region’s third pandemic winter. They are aided by a public that has proved relatively tolerant of social curbs. Unlike in the U.S., where some states were quick to drop restrictions amid optimism the virus was in retreat, there was never much expectation that the pandemic was over in Europe, where infections have spiked sporadically through spring and summer. Wall Street Journal
Living with it, not beating, is the only viable strategy. The will be many more viruses deployed against Americans, as our adversaries with bio-weapons programs -- as well as non-state actors -- are making conclusions about how easily a virus can defeat America's spirit of freedom and way of life. We can only hope that our specialists at US Army Medical Research and Development Command at Fort Detrick, MD are paying attention and developing
counterstrategies and deterrence options to thwart those adversaries' plans.
CDC action heats up debate over vaccine boosters . . . The debate over COVID vaccine boosters is intensifying after federal health authorities authorized a third dose of the vaccine for immunocompromised people last week. Health experts said the decision made sense, but the move is likely to spur more confusion than clarity about the need for a booster dose. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug
Administration made clear they authorized a third dose, not a booster, because the shots are considered part of the primary vaccine series. According to officials, data increasingly show that some people with compromised immune systems do not get the full benefit after just two doses. The Hill
It's getting harder and harder for an ordinary citizen to make an informed decision whether or not to get a booster vaccine. Getting unbiased information on the topic is almost impossible because of too many influences beyond our control : the politicization of science, vaccine producers' business interests, Big Tech's censorship of alternative views, and the leftist radicals' propaganda that is polarizing the society. How does one who is busy with daily
survival find time to get to the bottom of the truth?
Judges show wide latitude for exemptions to college COVID vaccine mandates . . . SCOTUS lets Indiana University mandate take effect, judge says UConn is liberal with exemptions. Universities with an exemption process for COVID-19 vaccine mandates - no matter how arbitrary, limited or ephemeral - are finding favor with judges in legal challenges, most recently involving the University of Connecticut. U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Meyer
dismissed a lawsuit Monday by two students and one parent challenging UConn's vaccine mandate for students, finding that he doesn't have jurisdiction. "The plaintiffs raise important constitutional questions" about whether and how the government can "condition access to public education on a student's sacrifice of his or her right against unwanted medical treatment in the form of a highly invasive injection of a yet-to-be fully approved vaccine," the judge said. But two of them
received exemptions after filing suit, while the third refused to apply on the basis that the exemption process was "unconstitutionally vague." Just the News

'Squad' Member Who Wanted to 'Cancel Rent' Received Thousands in Rental Income in 2020 . . . Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) was found through her annual financial disclosure to have received thousands of dollars in rental income last year despite advocating for cancelling rent after many Americans struggled to make payments due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Pressley's 2020 financial disclosure showed that she and her husband made between $5,000 and $15,000 off rental payments from an apartment in Boston. "Keeping families housed is a matter of public health. We must cancel rent, extend eviction and foreclosure moratoriums, provide rental assistance, and offer legal representation for those at risk of eviction," Pressley said in a tweet last December. In March 2021, Pressley joined fellow progressive "Squad" member Ilhan Omar in introducing a
bill that would have canceled rent and mortgage payments for renters across the country. Townhall

Hope Solo says teammate Megan Rapinoe would 'almost bully' players to kneel during national anthem . . . Former U.S. women’s national team player Hope Solo said during a podcast last week that she saw teammate Megan Rapinoe "almost bully" players into kneeling for the national anthem. "I've seen Megan Rapinoe almost bully players into kneeling because she really wants to stand up for something in her particular way, but
it's our right as Americans to do it in whatever way we're comfortable with," Solo said on "All of US: The U.S. Women's Soccer Show" last Tuesday. The former goalie described kneeling as "very divisive." Fox News
Parents Increasingly Fight for Control . . . Bad policies from school boards have had at least one unintended good effect.
Lately parents have become more active in the debate around what and how their children should be taught in public schools. Parents are weighing in on curriculum about “systemic racism,” policies about vaccinating children without parental consent, and the front-and-center debate of whether a child needs to wear a mask for the school day. The Left may be pushing wrong policies, but more parental involvement is a good thing. The political Left teaches that America is racist because it
was founded through oppression, prejudice, and white privilege. Kids are being taught racism and how to affix blame using racism, not how to prevent it. Whether it’s called Critical Race Theory (CRT) or some other clever name used to camouflage the activism taught as supplemental curriculum in our schools, this indoctrination has been exposed, causing many states to ban the passing on of this mindset. CNN Reporter Wears An Abaya During Broadcast In Public After Taliban Take Over Kabul . . . An image of CNN Chief International Correspondent Clarissa Ward circulated the internet Monday and showed a stark change in her dress when she reports in a private area versus a public one amid the Taliban takeover of Kabul, Afghanistan. Ward stated on Twitter that the photo circulating on the internet was not entirely accurate. “I always wore a
head scarf on the street in Kabul previously, though not w/ hair fully covered and abbaya. So there is a difference but not quite this stark,” Ward clarified. Ward was also notably dressed in her regular apparel inside “a private compound” when not on the streets of Kabul, according to her tweet. Daily Caller
This brave woman is trying to survive in hostile territory, so she simply is doing whatever is necessary to stay alive. Senator Cruz who criticized her for wearing an abbaya is wrong on this one.

Cat's meowing helps rescuers find owner, 83, who fell down a ravine . . . A pet cat is being hailed as a hero after it helped rescuers find its 83-year-old owner who fell down a ravine in the United Kingdom last weekend. Authorities had been searching for the elderly woman, who was missing for over an hour when a member of the public heard her cat, Piran, meowing, Bodmin Police wrote on Facebook. That person led
rescuers to the woman, who had fallen about 70 feet into a stream in north Cornwall "with incredibly difficult access and uneven terrain." "Piran the cat saved the day!" police said. Rescuers lifted the woman out of the ravine on a stretcher and she was taken to a hospital in stable condition, according to authorities. On Monday, police said the woman was still receiving care but was in "good spirits." Fox News
I am getting a cat! Oh wait, I've got one, already. And a dog, and another dog, and a parrot. Guess, I am all set in terms of being rescued, if I fall in a ditch.:-)
