October 27, 2023 Good afternoon, Leading the News . .
. Inside Tehran’s Soft War. How Iran Gained Influence In US Policy Centers . . . Three Iran experts who have worked closely with Robert
Malley, the Biden administration’s special envoy on Iran, were members of an influence network formed and guided by Tehran, an investigation by Iran International shows. The investigation was based on
thousands of emails between Iranian diplomats and analysts obtained by Iran International, which shared them with Semafor. The two organizations jointly reported parts of this story together, and wrote and published their stories independently. Malley has spent the past decade in and out of government, at times occupying crucial diplomatic posts. In
between those stints, he has held a perch at the International Crisis Group, a major think tank. Of the three Iran experts, one of them worked for him at the State Department, one worked for him at the ICG and
was an unofficial adviser when Malley was in government, and one worked for him only at the ICG. Iran International Labeling China, Russia and Iran as new 'Axis of Evil' will not neutralize the threats they pose . . . By Rebekah Koffler. Although it will certainly drive media ratings, attaching derogatory labels to your opponents and lumping very different adversaries together, in an emotional outburst, will
not eliminate the threat they present. In the intelligence business, which supports military planning, we don’t comment on the evilness of our targets – state or non-state actors and their leadership. There’s no point. As intelligence professionals, we identify the threats they pose so that they can be eliminated. Not only has the Biden administration missed the opportunity to prevent the unnatural Russia-China-Iran alliance from forming, it forged it. Now President Biden is faced with a real possibility of a broader conflict in the Middle East, in which the U.S.'s top two adversaries – with "near peer" military capabilities, by the Pentagon’s own designation – will be on the opposite side.
You don’t push your enemies together – you pull them apart. China, Russia and Iran’s intentions have been known to the U.S. defense establishment for more than a decade. Yet, Washington has chosen to
express feelings and emotions, appeal to our enemies' morals, virtue signal, and focus on climate change. Anything but to proactively keep the threats from our homeland. Rebekah Koffler | Fox News
Biden
spotted holding a note card with reporters' photos and names to call on at joint presser . . . President Biden was apparently caught once again using a cheat sheet of reporters after a picture of him holding a note card with their images went. During his joint press conference with Australia Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Wednesday, the leaders took questions from four reporters, two from each of their respective countries. Nearly 24 hours later, an image from the press conference
began circulating online that appeared to show the president carrying a note card with the reporters’ names and faces. The names on the list included PBS correspondent Laura Barrón-López, USA Today White House correspondent Joey Garrison, Australia’s Channel 10 Network Political Editor Ashleigh Raper and The Australian’s Jeff Chambers. All four were the reporters who asked questions at the event. Fox News Dean Phillips launching Democratic primary challenge to Biden . . . Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) is eyeing a collision course with President Joe Biden as the Minnesota Democrat announced his presidential primary challenge against the incumbent late Thursday. "I am. I have to," Phillips told CBS News in response to being asked if he was running for president. "I think President Biden has done a spectacular job for our country. But it's not about the past. This is an election about the
future." Washington Examiner Dems race to vilify new speaker, make him 2024 campaign issue . . . Speaker Mike Johnson, on his first full day leading the House, weathered a barrage of attacks from Democrats about
his conservative positions and Christian faith. A relative unknown among Democrats before his surprise ascension to the speaker’s rostrum, Mr. Johnson was immediately branded a “MAGA extremist” who is a threat to abortion and LGBTQ rights, public safety funding and Social Security checks. The blistering attacks on Mr. Johnson, Louisiana Republican, showcased Democrats’ certitude that he is a liability for swing-district Republicans and a boon for Democrats’ quest to retake the House majority in
2024. Washington Times

Iranian Attacks On US Bases Defy Biden’s Deterrence Efforts . . . Iranian proxy militias launched two fresh attacks on US bases in Syria and Iraq on Friday, after US warplanes hit targets in Syria belonging to the Revolutionary Guard. Tasnim news agency affiliated with the IRGC reported at midday local time that “six missiles were launched from the vicinity of Bu Kamal and al-Mayadeen” at the US base near the al-Omar oil fields. The website said in its headline that “American forces
were caught by surprise.” Later Tasnim also reported that the Ain al-Asad airbase in Iraq hosting US troops was hit by drones. Tasnim and Iraqi news websites reported that Islamic Jihad, a front of Iraqi Shiite forces loyal to Tehran, had issued a statement accepting responsibility. If true, these fresh attacks would constitute a quick response by Iranian forces to a limited US retaliatory attack launched hours earlier at two reportedly unmanned weapons depots of the Revolutionary Guard near Bu
Kamal. Iran International Muslim Pentagon Chief of Staff w/Terror Ties Attacks Israel, Cheers Hamas Supporters . . . We don't just have Hamas supporters in Congress, we also have them in the Pentagon. Yousra Fazili had also worked for a Qatari diplomat. Qatar is a state sponsor of Hamas. And Hamas is an arm of the Muslim Brotherhood. Yousra Fazili, who works as the Chief of Staff for the Pentagon Comptroller, reacted to Israel’s campaign to stop Hamas exactly as one would expect. “Let Gaza Live,” read one
Instagram post that Fazili reposted. She went on to praise students at Harvard for a series of pro-Palestinian rallies accusing Israel of “genocide” and demanding an immediate ceasefire. “I’m so proud of these kids at Harvard,” Fazili wrote, referring to an effort by media watchdog groups to identify the leaders behind the pro-Palestinian rallies. “The leaders all got doxxed this week & undeterred they continue to organize and come out strong.” Front Page The George Kennan Who Wasn’t . . . A startling string of policy failures shows the hollowness of the U.S. foreign policy establishment and its servile wunderkind, Jake Sullivan. His record includes a rapidly escalating stampede of failures: the botched Afghanistan withdrawal, the failure of deterrence in Ukraine, the failed Ukrainian counteroffensive, the economic war with China, America’s disastrous border policy, and now, decisively, U.S. policy toward
the Islamic Republic of Iran—which enjoyed the financial and diplomatic backing of Biden and Sullivan as it enabled the rape, murder, and kidnapping of thousands of Israeli Jews by a fascist death cult. The failure of the administration’s Iran policy, which Sullivan has shaped and promoted for a decade, has in turn forced Israel into a war of regime change in Gaza, sinking hopes for a peace deal with Saudi Arabia while promising to fill Vladimir Putin’s coffers with spiking oil prices. It is
arguably the most rapid-fire set of American foreign policy failures on record, and their handmaiden, if not their author, in each and every case, was Sullivan. Tablet

Israel
launches second ground incursion into Gaza, Hamas commander killed in airstrike . . . Israel launched a second brief incursion into Gaza overnight Thursday with ground troops supported by fighter jets and drones as the war against Hamas continues. IDF struck anti-tank missile launch sites, command and control centers and Hamas operatives, the military said. These ground incursions come ahead of an expected invasion of Gaza in a war that has already cost more than 8,000 people on both
sides. Fox News Israel Sends Mixed Messages To Iran’s Ally Qatar . . . By Benjamin Weinthal. Israel’s Foreign Minister Eli Cohen issued a mild back-handed slap at Qatar’s pro-Hamas policy this week but his message was stymied by a compliment for Doha from Jerusalem’s National Security Adviser. Cohen said on Tuesday at the UN, “Qatar which finances and harbors Hamas leaders could influence and enable the immediate and unconditional release of the hostages held by the
terrorists. You, members of the international community, should demand from Qatar to do just that.” A day later, National Security Adviser, Tzachi Hanegbi, wrote on X, formerly Twitter that “ I’m pleased to say that Qatar is becoming an essential party and stakeholder in the facilitation of humanitarian solutions. Qatar’s diplomatic efforts are crucial at this time.” Iran International Israel’s Laws of War. How IDF Doctrine Shapes the Campaign Against Hamas in Gaza . . . As Israel begins the first
stages of Operation Swords of Iron in response to Hamas’s October 7 terrorist attacks, many questions have been raised about the moral and legal aspects of the war. In Gaza, units of the Israel Defense Forces will confront tens of thousands of heavily armed Hamas fighters deeply embedded in a large noncombatant population. Given this highly challenging setting, a core concern is how the IDF can effectively protect Israel, its citizens, and Israel’s own soldiers while adhering to moral
principles, military ethical norms, and international law. Some have argued that Israel is not adhering to international laws of war. Foreign Affairs

Culture Jack Smith’s War on Free Speech: Attorney General Garland Should Rein in his Special Counsel . . . Smith continues his unrelenting effort to gag former president Donald Trump before the 2024 election. Even the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), a
leading critic of Trump, has come out against Smith's efforts as an attack on the First Amendment. Undeterred, Smith now wants to reinstate and expand the gag on Trump, citing Trump’s comments about his former chief of staff, Mark Meadows, who reportedly has been given an immunity deal by Smith. (Meadows’ lawyer disputes those reports.) Smith wants to bar Trump from criticizing any witnesses as well as the prosecution and the court. Messenger Elite
Universities That Defended Free Speech For Hamas Supporters Have Long Record Of Canceling Conservatives . . . Harvard University and the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) released statements defending students’ pro-Hamas speech after campus protests, but in the past have muzzled conservatives for speech and online statements. Harvard University President Claudine Gay and UPenn President Elizabeth Magill both said their respective universities support “free expression” in statements
made after pro-Palestinian rallies at the colleges following Hamas’ Oct. 7 terror attacks in Israel. In the past, however, conservative speakers and professors at the universities have frequently been shouted down, and some have been canceled for online statements. Daily Caller Halloween killed! ‘Woke’ schools axing kids’ parties over inequality is a haunting new low . . . There was a time, not long
ago, when the most horrifying thing in New Jersey was the Giants’ offensive line. But now, at least in one Garden State school district, it’s Halloween. Yes, that glorious fall day when pint-sized humans come to school dressed in princess gowns, superhero capes or zombie rags and are permitted to freebase a Nestlé sampler bag. Earlier this month, Dr.
Ronald G. Taylor, the superintendent of the South Orange-Maplewood School District, sent a letter home informing parents that he is a killjoy. Or, more specifically, that Halloween would not be celebrated in schools this year. New York Post

Ivy Leagues. FOX Business takes a look at the powerful voices on Wall Street supporting the cause. Victoria’s Secret Quietly Cancels New Lizzo Lingerie Line . . . In the wake of its decision to return to a more attractive marketing presentation of its product, clothing maker Victoria's Secret has quietly canceled its planned Lizzo lingerie line. "We probably should've given this more thought before we started," said Lillian Ellison, a marketing executive for the company. "Surprisingly, our customer base, and society as a whole, prefers to look at people and objects that
are attractive to look at. Who knew the buying public didn't really want to look at giant fatties — er, I mean, people of size, in lingerie? You learn something new every day in the marketing business, I tell you!" Babylon Bee
