Suspected spies for Russia held in major UK security investigation . . . Three suspected spies for Russia in the UK have been arrested and charged in a major national security investigation. The defendants, all Bulgarian nationals, were held in February and have been remanded in custody since. It is alleged they were working for the Russian security services.They are charged with possessing fake identity documents with "improper intention." The documents include passports, identity cards and other documents for the UK, Bulgaria, France, Italy, Spain, Croatia, Slovenia, Greece, and the Czech Republic. The three defendants were arrested under the Official Secrets Act by counter-terrorism detectives from the Metropolitan Police, which has national policing responsibility for espionage. They are: Orlin Roussev, 45, of Great Yarmouth, Norfolk; Bizer Dzhambazov, 41, of Harrow, north-west London; Katrin Ivanova, 31, of the same Harrow address. The trio have lived in the UK for years, working in a variety of jobs, and living in a series of suburban properties. BBC

West African military chiefs to discuss Niger crisis Thursday and Friday . . . Military chiefs from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) will meet in Ghana on Thursday and Friday to discuss a possible military intervention in Niger, regional military and political sources say. The meeting was called after the bloc’s leaders last week approved the deployment of a “standby force to restore constitutional order” in Niger, whose elected president was toppled by the military on July 26. The legal battles around former President Trump are costing taxpayers and Trump's team millions of dollars as a fourth indictment filed against him – and 18 others – was revealed in Georgia late Monday night. Trump's political action committee (PAC) "Save America" has spent more than $20 million on legal fees since the beginning of the year, according to CNBC. The PAC has more than $3 million on hand going into the second half of 2023. Special Counsel Jack Smith spent nearly $5.5 million during the first four months alone of the classified documents probe into the former president, and Special Counsel John Durham reported $7,683,839 total in expenditures since 2020 while investigating Russian interference in U.S. elections. Wray lied about not targeting Catholics . . . FBI Director Christopher Wray has forfeited all grounds for confidence in his integrity. He was caught this week in yet another falsehood, this time about an infamous memo targeting "traditionalist" Catholics, which appears to mean those who hew to orthodox doctrines and unmodernized liturgies. Wray must be made to clean up his act or clean out his office. The memo, produced by the FBI’s Richmond field office, said the bureau should particularly monitor “traditionalist Catholic” people, such as those who prefer the Latin Mass, as potential purveyors of “violent extremis[m]” who may need to be targeted for “threat mitigation.” It assumed traditionalist Catholics are particularly prone to becoming domestic terrorists.
