October 16, 2023 Good morning, Leading the News . . . FBI director warns of increased terror threats, potential copycat attacks on US after Hamas invasion . . . FBI Director Christopher Wray is warning after the brutal Hamas terrorist attack on Israel that there is an increase in reported threats in the United States and there is a possibility of copycat attacks. "In this heightened environment, there’s no question we’re seeing an increase in reported
threats, and we’ve got to be on the lookout, especially for lone actors who may take inspiration from recent events to commit violence of their own," Wray said Saturday at the International Association of Chiefs of Police Conference in San Diego, Calif.
Just the News Israel Says It Has Intelligence on Location of Hostages . . . The Israeli military for the first time said it had intelligence relating to the whereabouts of hostages taken during raids into Israel by Hamas militants, who are holding at least 199 people captive in Gaza. The Israeli military’s top spokesman Brig. Gen. Daniel Hagari said at a briefing Monday that the military "will not carry out an attack that would endanger our people."
The presence of hostages across the Palestinian enclave has complicated Israel's response to the attacks that left at least 1,400 dead as it has carried out retaliatory airstrikes killing more than 2,750 people. Twenty-two of the hostages have been killed in Israeli airstrikes, Hamas said, in a claim that couldn’t be verified. Abu Obeida, a spokesman for Hamas’s armed wing, said in a statement on Telegram app that “dozens of hostages” had been hidden in “safe places and the tunnels of the
resistance.” Wall Street Journal A Wake-Up Call for Biden’s Woke America: Hamas Murder Raids . . . It has taken decades for the American Bolsheviks to drive out and cripple the
old America that won the last World War. The left has won the media–just look at the drooling idiocy of MSNBC and the moral equivalence pushed out by the corrupt legacy corporate media. They have won the universities and other institutions and have accomplished their goal. They have weakened America, perhaps irreparably as our enemies think of slitting American throats. But now, just days after the Hamas savagery against civilians in Gaza, as Israel Defense Forces gather this weekend to rescue
their hostages taken captive and exact righteous revenge against Iranian-backed Hamas, a man of the West asks a question bound to irritate the Democrats: When will America wake up from the woke delusions brought by the Obama-Biden regimes, the first delusion being that the murderous terror-supporting Iran belongs anywhere in the community of civilized nations? An Israeli reoccupation of Gaza would be a mistake, Biden says . . . President Biden said in an
interview broadcast Sunday that a new Israeli occupation of Gaza would be “a big mistake,” comments that came as Israel is expected to launch a hard-hitting ground invasion of the Palestinian enclave. Keeping up with politics is easy with The 5-Minute Fix Newsletter, in your inbox weekdays. “I think it’d be a big mistake,” Biden said in a response to a question from “60 Minutes” host Scott Pelley. “Hamas and the extreme elements of Hamas don’t represent all the Palestinian people. And I think
that … it would be a mistake … for Israel to occupy … Gaza again.” Washington Post That didn't take long, did it? Actually, Hamas does represent the Palestinian people. They elected Hamas to represent them. Trump faces reckoning as D.C. judge mulls gag order . . . Can Donald Trump be gagged? That’s the question at the heart of a federal hearing Monday,
when U.S. District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan will consider whether to order the former president to stop attacking potential witnesses, prosecutors and court officials involved in his federal case over election fraud. If Chutkan agrees that Trump’s penchant for public invective should be restrained, it will be his first brush with court-ordered consequences in a criminal case — consequences that, at least in theory, could be backed by the threat of jail time. Politico Ramaswamy reports uptick in small donors, $4.2 million cash on hand . . . Vivek Ramaswamy kicked less of his own money into his presidential campaign last fundraising quarter, relying more on a newfound small-dollar donor base. The wealthy biotech entrepreneur
raised $2.8 million from donors giving less than $200, he reported Sunday, a larger small-dollar donor haul than Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who raised more from bigger donors. Politico North Carolina becoming 2024 battleground for Democrats vying to reclaim swing state
Trump won in 2020 . . . North Carolina is emerging as a 2024 battleground for Democrats looking to turn the tide in the swing state that saw narrow Republican victories in the past three presidential elections. The state is increasingly "trending purple" as populations in the state's major cities grow, North Carolina-based Democrat strategist Douglas Wilson recently told The Hill. North Carolina has seen relatively close elections for years, with several presidential, gubernatorial and
senatorial candidates winning by no more than a few percentage points. Former President Barack Obama won North Carolina's 15 electoral votes during the 2008 election, though Republicans carried the state in the 2012, 2016 and 2020 presidential contests. Republicans have generally seen more success in federal elections, like recently with Sen. Ted Budd's 2022 victory, while Democrats have seen more recent gubernatorial victories. Fox News
US aircraft carriers - What they bring to the Middle East . . . The Pentagon has deployed two
aircraft carriers -- and their supporting ships -- to the eastern Mediterranean since the attacks on Israel. The ships are meant as a deterrent to ensure the conflict does not expand, but bring a significant amount of power to a region that already hosts a number of U.S. military ships, planes and troops. The Gerald R. Ford carrier, along with supporting ships, arrived in the eastern Mediterranean early last week. The Ford, which was commissioned in 2017, is the United States' newest aircraft carrier and the world's largest, with more than 5,000 sailors aboard. The carrier, which includes a nuclear reactor, can hold more than 75 military aircraft, including fighter
aircraft like the F-18 Super Hornet jets and the E-2 Hawkeye, which can act as an early warning system. It has an arsenal of missiles, like the Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile, which is a medium-range, surface-to-air missiles used to counter drones and aircraft. Reuters VIDEO: This happened in New York. Defense Department data shows that the obesity rate, calculated using a person’s age, height and weight, has more than doubled over the past decade, from 10% to roughly 21%. At the same time, more than half of young Americans now qualify as obese, and it’s the no. 1 disqualifier for recruiting prospects. North Korea may be sending arms to Russia for Ukraine war, images suggest . . . Russian ships linked
to military transport networks have collected cargo from North Korea and delivered it to an apparent Russian military port on multiple occasions over the past two months, according to new satellite images providing the clearest evidence yet that Pyongyang may be helping Moscow’s war effort. Washington Post China Warns Israel Has 'Gone Beyond' Self-Defense in War . . . Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip have gone "beyond the scope of self-defense," China's foreign minister has said, as the encroaching possibility of an Israeli ground attack
threatens to further endanger Palestinian civilians who have been caught up in the fighting. Protecting "the basic needs of the people in Gaza" is a priority and "China opposes and condemns all acts that harm civilians," Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said during a call with Saudi Arabia Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud in remarks reported by Chinese media. Newsweek Iran's arch-terrorist was architect of Hamas massacre of 1,300 people: report . . . The Iranian’s regime organized
plan to aid Hamas in its massacre of 1,300 people, including 30 Americans, was front-and-center in the thinking of the dictator who rules over Iran, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, according to claims in a new think tank report. The Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) recently published a shocking report noting that Khamenei hinted on two different occasions, in 2022 and 2023, at "The
Complete Conquest" of Israel in his media mouthpiece Kayhan. According to a MEMRI translation from Khamenei’s propaganda outlet, Kayhan, the plan of mass murder was engineered by the late Iranian global terrorist Qassem Soleimani in 2020. The U.S. military assassinated Soleimani in early January 2020 for his overseeing the killing of over 600 American military personnel. Fox News
Money Runaway Inflation ‘Unlikely’ To Be Reeled In Under Biden Administration, Experts Say . . . As long as President Joe Biden continues his high government spending policies, inflation is not likely to return to previously normal levels without seeing economic repercussions, according to experts who spoke to the Daily Caller News Foundation. The last time the Consumer Price Index (CPI), a measure of inflation, was below 3%
year-over-year was in March 2021, two months after Biden took office, with the CPI last measuring at 3.7% for September, despite the Federal Reserve’s inflation target being just 2%, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. Daily Caller Middle east conflict keeps dollar elevated on safe-haven bids . . . The dollar edged lower on Monday but remained near a one-week high with fragile sentiment against a backdrop of conflict in the Middle East supporting demand for the safe-haven currency. Israel's
bombardment of Hamas-ruled Gaza continued overnight, with residents saying it was the heaviest pounding yet in nine days of conflict. The dollar index eased 0.08% to 106.47, but held close to highs touched on Friday, with investors also waiting to hear a speech by Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell later this week for clues on the U.S. interest rate outlook. Culture The Sick Alliance between the Left and Muslim Extremists . . . The virulent anti-Israel protests across America and Europe throw a glaring light on the bizarre alliance between left-wing activists and militant Muslims. That odd combination has been the bedrock of political activism at universities and in
the streets for years. It began in universities, where it now dominates political discourse, threatens Jewish students, and intimidates anyone brave enough to voice their dissent. We can now see how it has spread far beyond the campus. What makes the alliance so strange are the deep-seated differences between leftists and Muslim fundamentalists over core beliefs. The left supports women’s rights and full equality in the workplace and public sphere. Militant Muslims oppose them. Real Clear Politics How cancel culture not only silences — but also kills . . . One of the strangest things about fighting cancel culture is the stubborn claim that it doesn’t even exist. But 22 years of combatting censorship on college campuses has shown me that cancel culture is very real, and can even be deadly. My career began
shortly after 9/11, often defending professors who said controversial things about the attacks. One of my first cases involved a conservative professor named Mike Adams. He had been targeted by the University of North Carolina at Wilmington after he challenged a student who claimed America had the attacks coming. My organization, the non-partisan Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression
(FIRE), would be called to defend Professor Adams many times over the years for his irreverent conservative advocacy. More than a dozen professors were targeted in the wave of punishments after 9/11, and three of them were fired. New York Post

Defense Forces confiscated a large cache of weapons and supplies from Hamas terrorists amid the attack against Israel, the group announced Sunday. The weaponry removed from Hamas' possession included rockets, grenades, rocket-propelled grenades and ammunition. The IDF pointed to labels on the weaponry that it says show the materials were produced by Hamas. The seized weapons account for just
20% of the ones used by Hamas to kill Israelis, the IDF wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. Fox News US Investment Fund Financing China's Military Buildup . . . The Biden State Department claims it conducts "extensive" due diligence to ensure recipients of taxpayer-funded grants do not support terrorism.
