Fannie, Freddie chiefs given massive pay raise . . . Over the objections of the Obama administration and key lawmakers, the CEOs of bailed-out housing giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are getting massive pay raises, courtesy of the regulator appointed by President Obama himself. Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) Mel Watt defended his decision to approve the pay hikes, which will raise the Fannie and Freddie CEOs’ pay from $600,000 to $4 million. Washington Times

These are the two agencies most responsible for the financial meltdown. They were supposed to be eliminated. But under the Obama administration, they are thriving, clearly. Until the next meltdown.​

Sorry, Trump has a point . . . For all its crassness, Trump’s rant on immigration is closer to reality than the gauzy clichés of the immigration romantics unwilling to acknowledge that there might be an issue welcoming large numbers of high school dropouts into a 21st-century economy. If we don’t want to add to the ranks of the poor, the uninsured and the welfare dependent, we should have fewer low-skilled immigrants — assuming saying that is not yet officially considered a hate crime. Five ways Obama has caved to Iran . . . The Obama administration has said consistently for two years that it wants to reach an agreement that ensures Iran's nuclear program remains peaceful and can never be used to develop a nuclear weapon. But the administration has made a series of concessions, almost from the start, that have the potential to thwart the basic goal of the talks, even if an agreement is reached. Washington Examiner

Solid majority say Confederate flag not racist . . . As debate rages in South Carolina over the Confederate flag on its statehouse property, a majority of Americans see the rebel flag as a symbol of Southern pride, not a reminder of racism, according to a new CNN/ORC poll out Thursday. Public opinion is about where it stood 15 years ago, when the Palmetto State removed the rebel St. Andrew’s cross from the Capitol dome. But there is a stark racial divide on how the banner is perceived and what should be done about references to the Confederacy. Politico

TV Land axes Dukes of Hazard . . . The channel, which features reruns of iconic TV shows, told ABC News that it had “removed” the the Duke boys from the nightly schedule. The show had garnered unfavorable attention due to the Confederate battle flag painted the roof of the Dodge Charger known as “The General Lee” that was driven by show’s main characters, Bo and Luke Duke. Former CNN reporter shoots, kills attacker . . . Chuck de Caro, a former CNN reporter, was shot three times during an attempted robbery in an Albuquerque motel room on Tuesday, but he shot back, killing his attacker and defending his wife, Lynne Russell, a former CNN anchor. “I am very, very proud of my husband. He is my hero,” Russell told Albuquerque’s KOB Channel 4. Daily Caller​

Woman says won't have abortion for $1 million . . . An anonymous woman claiming that she's seven weeks pregnant says she won't have an abortion if pro-lifers give her $1 million.  "I am a twenty-six-year-old female and I am currently 7 weeks pregnant.
