Trump touts his "competence" . . . Trump told some 2,500 cheering activists at the annual FreedomFest in Las Vegas this weekend that competence is exactly what is not possessed by President Obama, former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, fellow Republican hopeful Jeb Bush and just about every politician in Washington. Christie rising? . . . Donald Trump and Jeb Bush are in a virtual dead heat, but the quickest rise has been for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who has been placing low in most polls but marked a third-place finish in a new Reuters-Ipsos poll released Saturday. Christie may be on the verge of a major comeback with 9.5 percent of the vote, just behind Bush and Trump. Newsmax

What kind of leader is Marco Rubio? . . . Obama, he told Fox News in March, "was a backbencher in the state Legislature in Illinois, and I was in leadership all nine years that I served there, including two as speaker of the House." National Journal

Hillary to unveil lefty agenda . . . Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Rodham Clinton will call for higher taxes on the wealthy and higher pay for everyone else when she presents her economic agenda Monday, but her remedy for income inequality has already come under fire from the right and the left. CONGRESS

Boehner: Hillary lying about emails . . . "She's not telling the truth. She had an obligation to turn these emails over," the Ohio Republican said on CBS Sunday, referring to Clinton's statements last week that she had no legal obligation to turn over her personal emails sent during her time with the State Department, but that she did because the government already had them. Boehner said he may issue another subpoena for Clinton's email server. Washington Examiner

House Republicans are going to be able to keep Hillary's scandals in the public domain for the rest of the campaign. Of course, none of this would be political . . . 

House conservatives angle for power . . . House conservatives beat back Republican leaders when they tried recently to crack down on one of their own — a triumph that stunned members and aides in both parties. Now the hard-liners are looking to press their advantage. Politico

Debt headed to 103 percent of GDP . . . Testifying in the U.S Senate, Congressional Budget Office Director Keith Hall warned that the publicly held debt of the U.S. government, when measured as a percentage of Gross Domestic Product, is headed toward a level the United States has seen only once in its history—at the end of World War II. CNS News

Zero interest rates. Skyrocketing debt. We have neither monetary nor fiscal tools deal with another recession. Which is due soon.

Sen. Cotton warns of "open rebellion" against Iran deal . . . “I think that many congressional Democrats are very worried about the path the president has taken, especially in these last two or three weeks,” he added, “and that you’re apt to see an open congressional rebellion and perhaps a veto-proof majority to stop the deal from going forward.” CNS News

Nominee to run Obamacare has conflicts of interest . . . Liberals and conservative have grave ethical concerns about Andy Slavitt, a former health care executive President Barack Obama nominated as his top administrator at the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Of greatest concern to Congress is the apparent conflict of interest Slavitt poses as a top administrator at an agency that will set the rules for his old boss and the nation’s largest insurance company, United Health Group. Obama's green energy spending distorts markets . . . President Obama has engaged in unprecedented spending on wind and solar power, and argues they’re key to getting the U.S. off of fossil fuels, but recent studies have raised new questions about just how much the so-called green energy sources will cost taxpayers. OPM Director Archuleta Resigns . . . Office of Personnel Management Director Katherine Archuleta resigned Friday, a day after it was revealed that some 22 million people – millions more than had previously been admitted – had their data hacked by what is believed to be Chinese attackers. Iran deal close, but not yet . . . Iran and six world powers appeared close to a deal on Monday to give Tehran sanctions relief in exchange for limits on its nuclear program, but Iranian officials said talks could run past their latest midnight deadline and success was not guaranteed. Diplomats from Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States wore grim expressions as they met and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry sat in silence when asked if the deadline might be extended or if he could rule out an extension. Reuters

Netanyahu says Western powers are "caving" into Iran even as the Islamic Republic keeps railing against them.

China's infiltration op . . . The vast cyber-attack in Washington began with, of all things, travel reservations. More than two years ago, troves of personal data were stolen from U.S. travel companies. Hackers subsequently made off with health records at big insurance companies and infiltrated federal computers where they stole personnel records on 21.5 million people -- in what apparently is the largest such theft of U.S. government records in history. Those individual attacks, once believed to be unconnected, now appear to be part of a coordinated campaign by Chinese hackers. Bloomberg

Europeans strike deal to save Greece . . . Euro zone leaders made Greece surrender much of its sovereignty to outside supervision on Monday in return for agreeing to talks on an 86 billion euros bailout to keep the near-bankrupt country in the single currency. Reuters

Brits had fox watching the chicken coop . . . The Government watchdog which inspects police forces’ readiness for terrorism admitted that it employed one of Britain’s most notorious Islamic extremists. For almost two years Abdullah al Andalusi, led a double life, the Telegraph can reveal.

Mexican drug kingpin escapes . . . Mexico's most notorious drug lord, Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, broke out of a high-security prison on Saturday night for the second time, escaping in a tunnel built right under his cell, and heaping embarrassment on President Enrique Pena Nieto. CNN

Miss Texas backs capitalism . . . During the pageant, Guerra was asked about the wealth of CEOs in the United States and whether the government should “impose boundaries on salaries of executives.”  Miss Texas responded, “If you work hard enough, you can attain anything. This is the land of opportunity and CEOs — I believe they work hard enough for their money, so I believe they should be able to attain whatever it is they’re working for.” The Blaze
