The Right Stuff In The Morning

Thursday, February 12, 2015

Good morning! In the news today: Americans are going to fight for ISIS and returning here, and we can't track them; Obama doubles down on gay marriage deception; the president lectures a private company on its practices; FCC considers regulating private speech; Scott Walker on evolution: No comment; and submit your work for the Muhammed art exhibit.

Have a great day.

Keith

We can't track Americans going to fight for ISIS . . . The U.S. government has little insight into who’s joining terrorist groups there, and who’s then leaving with what NCTC director Nicholas Rasmussen described as “training in weapons and explosives” and “access to terror networks that may be ultimately planning attacks” against the West. “It’s not even close to being under control,” FBI Deputy Assistant Director Michael Steinbach told House members. Obama explanation of gay marriage lie doesn't stand up . . . Obama is now claiming that he took the policy “position” against gay marriage – selflessly, actually – in order to find a way to accommodate those with religious sensitivities on the issue. There are many reasons why this is yet more blatant dishonesty, making the whole matter even more deeply disturbing. White House Dossier

Thanks, but no thanks, for the AUMF . . .  What Obama wants is for Congress to sign onto his strategy of highly circumscribed use of force to defeat ISIS. I’m sorry “degrade and ultimately destroy” ISIS. He wants company if the strategy fails. And that he should be denied, because fail, it will. White House Dossier

Obama finally unites Republicans, Democrats . . . Obama’s request for authorization to use military force against the Islamic State is a tough sell on Capitol Hill in its current form, with Republicans calling it too soft and Democrats questioning its scope and size. Washington Examiner

Obama lectures Staples . . . Reacting to Staples telling workers they are not allowed to work more than 25 hours a week, Obama contended there is “no reason for an employer who is not currently providing health care to their workers to discourage them from either getting health insurance on the job or being able to avail themselves of the Affordable Care Act.”

"I haven’t looked at Staples stock lately or what the compensation of the CEO is, but I suspect that they could well afford to treat their workers favorably and give them some basic financial security and if they can’t, then they should be willing to allow those workers to get the Affordable Care Act without cutting wages,” the president continued. The Blaze

Yes, let's start an investigation. In fact, once Gitmo is closed, we can make it a Gulag for reeducating CEOs about proper business practices.

IRS to pay back-refunds to illegals . . . IRS Commissioner Koskinen said even illegal immigrants who didn’t pay taxes will be able to apply for back-credits once they get Social Security numbers. The EITC is a refundable tax credit, which means those who don’t have any tax liability can still get money back from the government. He said that would apply even “if you did not file” taxes, as long as the illegal immigrant could demonstrate having worked off-the-books during those years. Washington Times

Okay, this makes sense. So now you get credit for prior illegal activity! Orwellian!!

Obama AWOL on Boko . . . It started with a groundswell of support and an appeal to “Bring Back Our Girls.” Ten months later, with most of those Nigerian schoolgirls no closer to being home, the White House rarely invokes the mounting atrocities committed by Boko Haram. Washington Examiner

VA Secretary to Iraq war veteran: "What have you done?" . . . Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert McDonald on Wednesday asked a Republican lawmaker who served in both Iraq wars, "What have you done?" as the two men sparred over huge cost overruns at a troubled Denver VA hospital. Fox News

Walker "punts" on evolution . . . The Republican governor, during a question-and-answer session after a speech in London, was asked whether he believes in or accepts evolution. “For me, I’m going to punt on that one as well,” Walker said, prompting some murmurs in the crowd at Chatham House, a major London think tank. “That’s a question a politician shouldn’t be involved in one way or another. So, I’m going to leave that up to you.” Politico

House approves Keystone by large, bipartisan majority . . . The House gave final congressional approval Wednesday to legislation to complete the Keystone XL oil pipeline -- setting up the first veto showdown between President Obama and the new, Republican-controlled Congress. The 270-to-152 vote showed broad bipartisan support for the legislation, but not enough to reach the two-thirds majority, or 281 votes, needed to override a presidential veto. Fox News
