The Right Stuff In The Morning
Tuesday, March 31, 2015
Good morning! In the news today: The United States and Iran fail to reach the promised agreement on Iran's nuclear weapons program; Saudis ready to crank up their nuclear program; Obama honors the dishonorable Ted Kennedy; Michelle's Cambodia hotel costs at $242,500; Hillary withheld information from Congress, might have broken the law; and Jon Stewart's replacement doesn't like Israel, and maybe not Jews
either.
Oh, and have a great day.
Keith
No deal . . . Wrapping up six days of marathon nuclear talks with mixed results, Iran and six world powers prepared Tuesday to issue a general statement agreeing to continue talks in a new phase aimed at reaching
a final agreement to control Iran's nuclear ambitions by the end of June, officials told The Associated Press on Tuesday.
Officials had set a deadline of March 31 for a framework agreement, and later softened that wording to a framework understanding, between Iran and the so-called P5+1 nations — the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China.
And after intense negotiations, obstacles remained on uranium enrichment, where stockpiles
of enriched uranium should be stored, limits on Iran's nuclear research and development and the timing and scope of sanctions relief among other issues. Associated PressThe deadline has been missed. Sanctions were promised. Now what will Republicans do? Iran moves the goal posts again . . . What’s quite unusual is for a party, at eleventh hour, to insist on a position it hasn’t previously taken. When this occurs, it means one of two things: either the party pulling the switch
doesn’t want a deal or it realizes that the other side is so desperate for a deal that it can act in blatant bad faith with impunity. Power Line They know full well Obama will never attack them.
For starters, it would be what Bibi wants . . . U.S. sacrificed leverage . . . U.S. and Iranian negotiators struggled to clinch a nuclear deal as Tuesday’s self-imposed deadline drew ever nearer, even as critics said the White House already had given up a key point of leverage by easing pressure on Iran’s economy in the months leading up to a prospective deal. Washington Times Saudis suggest they may build the bomb . .
. Asked Sunday on Meet the Press if his country would rule out pursuing nuclear weapons as a result of the Iran agreement, Saudi Arabian ambassador to the United States Adel al-Jubeir said: "Every country has to look out for its own interest, and we have to protect our people and do whatever it take to do so, and we have to assess the threat and make a decision on how we’re going to deal with it." Obama honors the dishonorable Ted Kennedy . . . It has long been interesting to me that the Democrats’ two most exalted leaders of the past half century, Kennedy and Bill Clinton, have been serial abusers of women. Kennedy took his abuse of women a step further,
actually killing one. White House Dossier Obama suggests Republicans lack Kennedy's courage . . . No doubt, Edward Kennedy was a great
legislator. He passed tons of stuff. So, speaking at a tribute marking the opening of the Edward M. Kennedy Center, lecturer-chief-Obama chastised other senators, no doubt most of them of the Republican persuasion, for lacking the courage to pass stuff too. White House Dossier Kennedy shrine cost taxpayers $38 million . . . The stated mission of the Edward M. Kennedy Institute is to teach the general public about how the U.S. Senate works, so it’s fitting that the shrine to the late Massachusetts Democrat is funded, in part, by $38 million in taxpayers’ money. Daily Caller
Kennedy's real legacy: 50 years of mass immigration . . . At the
commemoration of the Edward M. Kennedy Institute Monday, Obama obliquely referred to Kennedy’s role in pushing his influential political accomplishment: The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965. The passage of the act marked a fundamental change in America’s immigration policy: Rather than serving the interests of Americans and national unity by setting limits on immigration, the act put “family unification” as the top priority, serving the interests of foreigners first. Breitbart EPA chief: Keystone wouldn't be a disaster . . . “No, I don’t think
that any one issue is a disaster for the climate, nor do I think there is one solution for the climate change challenge that we have,” McCarthy said. Politico Hawks face an obstacle: Obama . . . The White House signals it won’t go along with billions in extra Pentagon funds without something in return. Politico Michelle Cambodia hotel cost a quarter million dollars . . . Hotel accommodations for First Lady Michelle Obama’s two-day trip to Cambodia required 85 rooms and cost taxpayers $242,500, according to a government contract released Friday. Mrs. Obama traveled to Siem Reap, Cambodia on March 21 to promote a girls education initiative. A contract was awarded on March 3, citing the “unusual and compelling urgency” of the First Lady’s trip. Washington Free Beacon
That's just the beginning of the costs. Millions of taxpayer dollars so the first lady could get a look at Angkor Wat. And couldn't she get a better hotel deal in

Hillary withheld information from Congress. Now what? . . . On September 20, 2012, just nine days after the terrorist attacks on the U.S. diplomatic facility in Benghazi, the House Government Oversight Committee sent a letter to Secretary of State
Hillary Clinton requesting that she turn over "all information … related to the attack on the consulate." On October 2, 2012, Clinton responded, saying she would cooperate fully with the investigation into what went wrong in Benghazi. We now know that that statement was not true. Washington Examiner Broke the law? . . . Did the former secretary of state delete pertinent e-mails while subject to congressional investigation? National Review
The server isn't quite clean . . . The emails Clinton says she deleted from her personal server may still be recoverable. Politico
Used an iPad too . . . Hillary Rodham Clinton emailed her staff on an iPad as well as a BlackBerry while secretary of state, despite her explanation she exclusively used a personal email address on a homebrew server so that she could
carry a single device, according to documents obtained by The Associated Press. Pence will "fix" Indiana religious freedom law . .
. Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, whose state is under fire over the passage of a religious freedom law that critics say could allow businesses to discriminate based on sexual orientation, told Fox News on Tuesday that he and legislative leaders plan to clarify the policy in the coming days. "I abhor discrimination," the Republican governor told Fox News. Fox News
Republicans hopefuls defend law . . . A throng of likely Republican presidential contenders came to the defense Monday of
Indiana Gov. Mike Pence’s signing of the state’s religious-freedom law, signaling a sharp contrast with Democrats on an issue that could extend into the 2016 race. Washington Times Dems want school lunches on the weekends . . . Democrats are once again proposing to expand the federal school lunch program to weekends and holidays, to create a full-time nutrition program during the school year for kids who are most at risk of going hungry when school is out. The Blaze This is how it works. No welfare program ever stops expanding. They get a
foot in the door and pretty soon they're in the living room rearranging the furniture and serving cocktails.

formally gain membership of the International Criminal Court on Wednesday with the aim of pursuing Israelis for war crimes, despite uncertainty over the move's wider ramifications. AFP

Krauthammer backs Obama's Bergdahl deal . . . “I would’ve made the deal, but I would’ve issued a statement saying it is with the deepest regret, this is a terrible day, this is a dark day, we had to
release people who we know will go to war against us, but we have a principle, we want to bring people back if we can,” commentator Charles Krauthammer said. The Blaze Just when I was starting to think Krauthammer was always right . . . Americans want to make voting easier . . . Most Americans support automatic registration for people who interact with
the DMV (54%) and allowing people to register to vote on the same day as an election (55%). Only a third oppose each proposal. When it comes to mandatory voting, however, a large majority of the public (66%) oppose making it mandatory to vote. and only 22% of Americans think that the government should be working to get more people to vote. YouGov Is safety making us soft? . . . Academia has given us so much for which not to be grateful — identity politics, race/gender studies and sundry unpleasantries. But it has topped itself now with one even better — the right to be treated as something quite
fragile, always endangered and almost too precious to live. Washington Examiner New Daily Show host's questionable tweets on Israel, Jews . . . "South Africans know how to recycle like israel
knows how to be peaceful," wrote Trevor Noah. Breitbart
