The Right Stuff In The Morning

Tuesday, March 24, 2015

Good morning! In the news today: White House Chief of Staff McDonough says Israel's occupation of the West Bank must end; Iran deal deadline is here - but no deal; Cruz is way behind on money; Dems playing race card on Lynch; and America's left-wing Jews are ashamed of Israel's Jews.

Have a great day.

White House Chief of Staff to Israel: Get out . . . White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough made clear in a speech to a left-leaning Israel advocacy group that President Obama isn’t letting Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu off the hook for his dismissal of a two-state solution. A one-state solution based on unilateral annexation and abandonment of democratic rights for Palestinians, he warned, “would only contribute to Israel’s further isolation.” In other words, he said, more divestment, boycotts and efforts to delegitimize Israel in the international community. “An occupation that has lasted more than 50 years must end,” McDonough said, one of several times he brought the crowd to its feet. Politico

The threat is clear: the isolation would be justified, and the United States will be a part of making it happen.

Graham blasts McDonough . . . "Today the chief of staff of the president of the United States used language that has been reserved for terrorist organizations," said Sen. Lindsey Graham. The Hill

Judge to DOJ: "Like an idiot, I believed you" . . . Judge Andrew Hanen, who blocked President Obama executive amnesty order, waited until mid-February to do so because he was assured by Justice Department attorneys that they wouldn’t be doing any amnesties until then. Oops. White House Dossier

Hillary meets with Obama at the White House . . . “President Obama and Secretary Clinton enjoy catching up in person when their schedules permit,” Earnest said. “This afternoon they met privately for about an hour at the White House and discussed a range of topics.” Politico

My thinking is she may have wanted to talk to him about his handling of Israel and how it may be creating divisions within the Democratic base.

FEMA targets climate change "denier" governors . . . The Obama administration has issued new guidelines that could make it harder for governors who deny climate change to obtain federal disaster-preparedness funds. New rules put Rick Scott, Bobby Jindal, Chris Christie, Pat McCrory, Greg Abbott in bind. Washington Times

Zimmerman blames Obama for racial tensions . . . George Zimmerman, acquitted of murder charges in the shooting death of an unarmed black teen in Florida, said in a videotaped interview that President Barack Obama stoked racial tensions in the case. Reuters

Afghan president wants U.S. troops to stay longer . . .  A request by Afghan President Ashraf Ghani for “flexibility” in President Obama’s timetable for the departure of U.S. troops is under active consideration, and will be a focus of talks at the White House on Tuesday. CNS News

Iran deal deadline arrives - but still no deal . . . The March 24 deadline set by negotiators working on an Iranian nuclear agreement has arrived, and no “political framework agreement“ has yet been reached. A group of ten Senate Democrats stated in a Jan. 27 letter to President Obama that if no agreement is reached by the agreed upon deadline of March 24 they would support legislation that would impose additional sanctions on Iran. Washington Free Beacon

Liberal prof Dershowitz: Cruz was "off the charts brilliant" . . . Ted Cruz, who announced his presidential candidacy today, will be the subject of much vitriol in the press. But he won’t receive the epithet most coveted by liberals when they go after conservatives: They can’t say he’s stupid. “Off the charts brilliant,” is what legendary liberal Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz said of his former student. White House Dossier

Cruz: Imagine a president who stands with Israel . . . Ted Cruz received a standing ovation at the world’s largest Christian university today, Liberty University, when he asked the students to imagine, instead of a president who “boycotts Prime Minister Netanyahu,” one who “stands unapologetically with the nation Israel.” White House Dossier

Cruz's big-money crisis . . . Sen. Ted Cruz now faces a massive hurdle: raising the tens of millions of dollars it will take to mount a year-and-a-half long campaign. The Texas Republican is months behind his competitors in recruiting mega-donors and bundlers. Politico

Cruz more like Obama than Reagan? . . . The most significant parallel is that both Obama and Cruz seem more interested in the theater of politics than the unsatisfying nitty-gritty of convincing legislators to support their different political agendas. Jamie Weinstein

Yes, Cruz is a natural-born citizen . . . Cruz was born in Canada in 1970, and his father was born in Cuba and his mother was born as a United States citizen in Delaware. The Constitution’s states that “no person except a natural born Citizen . . .  shall be eligible to the Office of President.” The scholarly consensus about Cruz is that he’s most likely eligible to serve as president. Constitution Daily

Dems increasingly playing the race card on Lynch . . . At a House news conference last Thursday, Rep. Corrine Brown (D-Fla.) accused Republicans of failing to vote on confirming Loretta Lynch as attorney general because "there is hidden racism rampant." Brown’s comments came just a day after Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) took to the Senate floor and claimed that Lynch is being "asked to sit in the back of the bus." CNS News

Israel said to have spied on U.S.-Iran talks . . . Israel obtained sensitive information about the nuclear talks between Iran and the United States and turned it over to members of Congress, the Wall Street Journal is reporting. Citing “current and former officials,” the paper said the “spying operation was part of a broader campaign by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government to penetrate the negotiations and then help build a case against the emerging terms of the deal.” Israel denied the charges. Washington Post

Obama allows "Death to America," but not Netanyahu's remark . . . The Obama administration toed a hard line Monday against Benjamin Netanyahu for his comments about Israeli Arabs and Palestinian statehood leading up to Israel’s election last week, but downplayed concerns over “death to America” remarks Iran’s supreme leader made over the weekend. Washington Free Beacon

Air crash in Europe believed to have killed 150 . . . An Airbus operated by Lufthansa's Germanwings budget airline crashed in a remote snowy area of the French Alps on Tuesday and all 150 on board were feared dead. Reuters

American's Left-wing Jews are ashamed of Israeli Jews . . . Last week, Israel’s Jews did something that utterly infuriated American Jews: they overwhelmingly voted for a man of the Right, or for other right-of-center parties. To understand their fury, one must first understand that no one is more certain of their moral superiority than the Left. For the leaders of the American Jewish religious Left - Reform, Reconstructionist, and now Conservative Judaism - Jews who are politically or socially conservative are a disgrace to Judaism, which, for left-wing Jews, is essentially the same as leftism. They regard Jewish conservatives as moral traitors to the Jewish people. Dennis Prager

No evidence to support U-Va. rape case . . . There is no evidence to support claims in a Rolling Stone article that a University of Virginia student was gang-raped at a campus fraternity in September 2012, police said, noting that a five-month investigation led detectives to discredit numerous claims about the alleged assault.
